Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., was born into the family of Malam Abdulrahman Marafa (Jodi), grandson of Sultan Muhammad Bello, son of Sheikh Usman ibn Fodio. Goronyo received his early Islamic education in Sokoto town from various scholars, including his Aunt Moddibo Bagidada (wife of the late Waziri of Sokoto, Abdulkadir Maccido). He later combined Islamic and Western education, attended Kofar Marke Primary School 1981, obtained a Secondary School Certificate at Government College Sokoto 1986 (now Nagarta College). In pursuit of higher education, he obtained a Diploma in Law from the College of Legal and Islamic Studies Sokoto, and later earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree in Sharia and Common Law from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1997. He then preceded, to the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja, where he was call to the Nigeria Bar in 2001.
Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo served in various Government organizations, including the National Population Commission, Sokoto State House of Assembly, National Orientation Agency, and a Lecturer at the State College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Sokoto. He was in active legal practice before he ventured into politics in 2006. He served as a Partner in the Law Firm of Adamu Umar & Co., Sokoto, and subsequently a Principal Partner of Rafi Law Chambers, Sokoto.
In his political career, Barr. Goronyo joined politics in 2006 and served as a two-term member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly (2007-2015), representing Goronyo Constituency, he held positions of Minority Leader, Deputy Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Sokoto House of Assembly. In 2015, he was appointed to serve as a Commissioner in the Government of Sokoto State, where he served in the Ministries of Solid Minerals, Energy Development, and later the Ministry of Information. In 2019, he voluntarily resigned his position to pursue personal goals.
A committed democrat and party loyalist, Barr. Goronyo has served at various times as Local Government Party Secretary for Goronyo, Assistant Legal Adviser, Interim Organizing Secretary, and Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Towards the build up to the 2023 presidential election, he was appointed Director Youth Mobilization NorthWest for the Asiwaju/Shettima Campaign Organization where he successfully mobilized youth which culminated in the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. Undoubtedly, Goronyo has worked across the three arms of government and made significant contributions to the formation and growth of the APC.
In 2023 he was appointed as the Honourable Minister of State Water Resources and Sanitation and later redeployed to Ministry of Works as the Minister of State for Works.
On the 1st June 2026, he was appointed the Sarkin Riman Daular Usmaniya, one of the revered traditional title in the Sokoto Caliphate by his eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Saa’d Abubakar 111 CFR, mni.
Goronyo is a member of national and international organizations and associations, including the Nigerian Bar Association, African Bar Association, International Bar Association, Global Peace Foundation, Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), Fellow of the Hydrological Society of Nigeria, Fellow of the Environmental Society of Nigeria, Fellow Occupational Safety and Health Association (UK), Fellow of Institute of Public Relations, Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (USA), and Member of Nigerian Body of Benchers, among others.
Barrister Goronyo widely travelled and is happily married with children.
